Barcelona are set to tie down central defender Gerard Pique to a new long-term contract, .
The player s current deal is due to expire in June 2015 and the club officials have already opened talks with Pique s representatives.
El Mundo Deportivo has suggested that sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and agent Arturo Canales are close to reaching an agreement after holding a meeting in England.
Pique is, therefore, expected to put pen to paper on a contract until June 2018 as he will be rewarded for becoming a key player at Camp Nou.
The 27-year-old returned to the club from Manchester United in the summer of 2008 and has since enjoyed a great deal of success in Catalunya.
