Corinthians name Menezes as new coach

Former Brazil coach Mano Menezes has been confirmed for a second stint at the helm of Corinthians.

The 51-year-old s appointment was announced by director Roberto de Andrade on Wednesday, replacing Tite, who helped the club win the Copa Libertadores and FIFA Club World Cup last year but was not handed a contract extension.

Menezes first spell in charge of the club came between 2007 and 2010, when he led them to the Serie B title in 2008, before claiming the 2009 Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brasil.

During that time, Menezes took charge of 185 fixtures, producing 103 wins, 49 draws and 33 defeats.

An unsuccessful two-year period in charge of the national team followed, before returning to the domestic game for a short-lived reign at Flamengo earlier in 2013.

Corinthians finished 10th in this year s Serie A, winning just four of their last 21 fixtures.

Menezes is set to begin his new job with Corinthians first Paulista fixture of 2014 against Portuguesa on January 18.
