Former Chelsea player Michael Ballack has endorsed Jose Mourinho s return as manager to the London-based English Premier League club.
Ballack, who was signed by Mourinho in 2006, praised the Portuguese s character , while adding that Chelsea s fans will be thrilled to have the 50-year-old manager back after his stint in charge of Real Madrid.
With Chelsea having won the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League in the past two seasons, Ballack believes the London-based club will be a great package for Mourinho.
He s a great character and he s a great coach, even in his younger years he was unbelievably successful, Ballack said.
And to go back to a club like this, it s never a bad decision because Chelsea is a fantastic club.
They won the Champions League last year, this year the (Europa League).
The money would be right for him as well.
The fans love him, I know, and a lot of English supporters as well, even if they don t support Chelsea.
All together, I think it s a great package for him.
Ballack also paid tribute to outgoing Bayern Munich head coach Jupp Heynckes, who was his boss at Bayer Leverkusen in the 2010/11 season.
Heynckes led Bayern to the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and UEFA Champions League titles in his final season with the Bavarian club, helping the Munich-based outfit become the first German team to win that combination of trophies in a single campaign.
I worked with him (Heynckes) in Leverkusen for a year in the last stages of my career and I think he has done an incredible job at Bayern, Ballack said.
History has proved that there was nothing better in the past and Heynckes has had such a huge affect on them.
He was a manager that was in total control of the guys, unified everyone and set up the team perfectly.
